Smoking pipes nick-name

Some of our habitual shapes remind us of familiar objects, and so we gave these pipes nick-names to identify them.
This little family tradition of ours, whispered gently to a customer, has proved interesting enough to urge us to document this detail of the history of a pipe.

This way the idea of using these special names to stamp some of our pipe shapes has been born.
These shapes will be rendered more unique with the following names:

Pipe "Bricco" (coffeepot),
Pipe "Pignattina" (bean pot),
Pipe "Tronchetto" (tronky),
Pipe "Anfora" (amphora),
Pipe "Alveare" (beehive),
Pipe "Cornetto" (our horn),
Pipe "Orientale" (oriental),
Pipe "Tappo" (champagne cork),
Pipe "Barilotto" (small cask).
As of March 2002, you will find the pipe's nick-name stamped along with the usual quality-grade stamp.

From december 2005, 2 new shapes are incoming : "Ceraso" (cherrywood) and "Astronave" (starship).

Groups of smoking pipes

The pipes are divided into merit groups, from 1 to 8 (the number can be seen above the cloud stamped on the bottom of the shank).

  • Pipes group 1 means a rusticated pipe;
  • Pipes group 2 refers to pipes for which a special decoration has been devised, where the tiny natural defects in the briar disappear in the play of the smooth and rusticated sides, enhancing the wholesome and grained part;
  • Pipes group 3 upwards, the pipes are all of a smooth natural finish, and classification depends on the quality of the grain;
  • Pipes group 4 shows an already beautiful, quasi-grained briar;
  • Pipes group 5 is a straight-grained pipe;
  • Pipes groups 6 and 7 show an even iner grain;
  • Pipes group 8 the grain is so (wonderfully) fine that it is called "angel hair";

The selection and grading process of smoking pipes is so scrupulous that in six years of pipe making, only 2 pipes have earned the grade "8" and 7 pipes the grade "7".

  • Starting January 2008 we introduced Group S which, with its subgroups 1, 2, 3 identifies sandblasted pipes.

Le Nuvole Zed

If Le Nuvole pipes in general are the result of a search for balance, the "Zed" series stems from fantasies that, deviating from rationality, lead to shapes that are both playful and free-flawing.
Each Zed pipe is stamped with its serial number and has a special guarantee which bears the serial number, date of purchase and price.
