Hallo,
in my previous note to present my sandblasted pipes, speaking
about their finishing, I used the generic word Shellac (Gommalacca).
A couple of american friends informed me this word could create a
misunderstood.
So I'd like to clarify I absolutely don't use shellac to make the
pipe airtight and bright.
To close pores of the briar you need, at least, 5/6 coats of
shellac.
I only use one coat of dilute shellac as a color fixative ( blasted
pipes absorbe color in a different way respect smooths and rustics)
that only prevents the stain from coming off your pipes onto the
hands of the smoker.
After this operation the pipe still appears opaque and surely with pores
wide opened, to get bright it I use a little brush with
natural bristles which confers to the pipe a natural and silky
brightness. The smooth portions on the blasted pipes are finished
with Carnauba wax.

Hallo,
I’ve always loved sandblasted pipes, I renounced to produce them for nine
years waiting for the moment I'd owned my personal blasting machine which
allowed me to have the control of all the sandblasting phases.
Three months ago I've finally been able to find & buy a little , but
valid blast machine, and today I'm happy & proud to update my site
http://www.lenuvolepipes.com with my first seven sandblasted pipes,
finished only with natural colors and shellac.
I've introduced a new group of merit in my grading system: Group S
which, with its subgroups 1, 2, 3, identifies my sandblasted Le Nuvole.
You can direcly see only these new pipes on:
